Hotels
The Conference Greening Committee
identified four primary areas of focus for our greening
efforts with the selected Conference hotels. The four
areas are: recycling, energy efficiency,
cleaning products and practices, and use of the Green Hotel
Initiative Card. All
four hotels have agreed to comply with our requests in
these areas as follows.
- Recycling – Regardless of the
recycling programs currently in place, each hotel has
agreed to have recycling containers placed near the elevators
or central locations. These recycling
containers will be serviced by St. Louis Earth Day who
will be providing the containers and ensure that they are
removed and the contents provided to a qualified recycler.
- Energy Efficiency – We have asked the
hotels to:
- Use CFLs (compact fluorescent) bulbs in all lighting
fixtures where possible.
- Keep lights, televisions and air conditioners off
in rooms awaiting occupancy.
- Cleaning Products and Practices – We
have asked the hotels to use non-toxic cleaning products
and laundry products.
- Green Hotel Initiative Card – We
have asked that the Green Hotel Initiative Card be provided
to all guests at the Conference hotels. These
cards survey the guest upon check in and check out. The
Check-In Card asks guests to indicate their preferences
with regard to environmentally responsible practices in
the following areas, and asks for feedback on the hotels’ performance
upon checkout. A PDF of the card can be downloaded
by clicking here.
- Towel replacement
- Sheet changing
- Replacement of Toiletries
- Recycling
- Lights and air conditioning
- Daily newspaper delivery
