City Museum - Music, Desserts, drinks and fun!
Monday, June 23; 7:30 - 10:30 p.m.
Join us Monday evening following the reception in the Exhibit Hall for music, desserts, drinks and lots of fun as conference attendees have free run of a truly unique venue, the City Museum. Housed in the 600,000 square-foot former International Shoe Company, the museum is an eclectic mixture of children's playground, funhouse, surrealistic pavilion, and architectural marvel made out of unique, found objects. The brainchild of internationally acclaimed artist Bob Cassilly, a classically trained sculptor and serial entrepreneur, the museum opened for visitors in 1997 to the riotous approval of young and old alike. Cassilly and his longtime crew of 20 artisans have constructed the museum from the very stuff of the city; and, as a result, it has urban roots deeper than any other institutions'. Reaching no farther than municipal borders for its reclaimed building materials, CITY MUSEUM boasts features such as old chimneys, salvaged bridges, construction cranes, miles of tile, and even two abandoned planes! Shuttles will originate from the America’s Center and will run regularly to the assorted Conference Hotels.

GREENSBURG, KANSAS – LESSONS LEARNED, OPPORTUNITIES REALIZED
9:00 - 10:00 a.m.

In May 2007, Greensburg, Kansas was devastated by a powerful EF‑5 tornado. Over 90% of the town’s structures were destroyed. The devastation was so massive with many buildings underinsured or not insured at all; many outside the community questioned whether the community would (or even could) be rebuilt. As it set out to rebuild, a new green vision began to emerge. The success in realizing its’ dream to become ‘the greenest town in America’ has been impressive. Several buildings are being built to LEED standards and the city has adopted a resolution for city buildings to be built to LEED Platinum. The story of the year long recovery in Greensburg will be told from very different view-points: the city administrator, a business owner, the founding Director of Greensburg GreenTown, a community based nonprofit and an educational representative.
